London's own Dennis Bordin will be presented with the Presidents Award by Special Olympics Ontario. This will take place on Saturday November 10th at the Provincial Confernce in Toronto.

Dennis Bordin has been an active member of Special Olympics Ontario - London for the past 8 years.

Dennis began his work in London with the Floor Hockey program, working as an assistant coach and soon began work as a referee.

In 2000, Dennis was selected to work at the Canadian National Winter Games in Ottawa as a floor hockey referee. The following year, he attended the Special Olympics World Winter Games in Anchorage Alaska as a referee.

In 2002, Dennis took on the responsibility as co-chair for the London Community Program upon the death of the incumbent volunteer. His business-like approach to the operation of the monthly meetings has helped to keep all volunteers on task and get all the business completed in a timely manner. Dennis agreed to remain as co-chair in 2004 for another 2-year term. This was further extended into 2007 - 2009 in the last election held in April.

In 2003, Dennis was a referee at the Provincial Floor Hockey championships in Ottawa. It was shortly after this that Dennis was asked to be the co-technical director for the Special Olympics World Winter Games in Nagano Japan. Over the next two years, he traveled to Japan several times to assist with the planning and conduct an officials training course. During the games in 2005, Dennis was very busy with the divisioning of teams and the technical aspect of the tournament.

Dennis served as the Technical Director for the Provincial Floor Hockey Championships held in Toronto this past May. Dennis has also maintained his volunteer involvement on a weekly basis with floor hockey in the London program. He has done public relations work in the community and for the past year, he has served as the Provincial Sport Technical Coordinator for Floor Hockey. He also attends fund raising activities in London and the Regional Sport meetings. He has helped out at the London track practices as well as the Regional Track meet as an official.
